The Lakehill area is a neighbourhood of homes, townhouses, apartments, and condominiums along with a variety of businesses ranging from farm markets through grocery stores, pharmacies, fast food and gas stations to commercial businesses. There is a nearby high school and a number of parks. St. Peter’s location in this area provides opportunities for local outreach such as gift cards for groceries and pet blessings.
St. Peter's Lakehill began as a mission of St. Luke's parish, Cedar Hill, in the mid-1940s. For the first half century, parishioners of St. Peter's worshipped in two converted army barracks, previously located on our present site. In 1998, the parish finally achieved its dream of a purpose built sanctuary and parish hall, which continues to be used to this day. The single level complex is fully wheelchair accessible, including accessible washrooms, infant change facilities, and plenty of parking for those with small children, or with mobility needs.
Since 2012, the St. Peter's congregation has partnered with a fellow Saanich parish, St. David by-the-Sea, Cordova Bay, to form The Two Saints Ministry.
The St. Peter's building is home to a number of community groups. Here one can find a place to worship, or enjoy a quiet Bible Study. St. Peter's is proud to be the home of the Portage Inlet Pathfinders and Girl Guides, the Elks of Victoria, Vancouver Island Philatelic Society, and currently an extension of Phoenix Human Services Organisation who are renting space in the building. Beside the property sits a small senior’s residence, Abbeyfield St. Peter’s which has a special relationship with the Two Saints Ministry.
